Water-slides, S'mores, Arcade games...Family fun resort in NY

So after ten years of whinging about winter in New York, we decided this year to get out of the city on the weekends and do more fun stuff with the kids. This required first to get our NYC drivers licence (my husband did this, I'm still a "learner") and we have been taking road trips to Connecticut, New Jersey, Brooklyn & upstate NY.

Last weekend we traveled 2 hours upstate NY to Monticello in the Catskills area to the Kartrite Resort. This indoor water park, games arcade and hotel has so much to keep the kids entertained all weekend. There is also a day spa for those exhausted mommies. We hired our car through zipcar. If you have an IDNYC card, you can get a FREE membership at zipcar for 1 year.

We drove up on Saturday morning, stayed that night and traveled back Sunday afternoon. The resort allows you to use all the facilities prior to your room being ready the day of check in, and after you check out for the remainder of the day. So you get two days of fun with only 1 night of accommodation.

The accommodation was nice, the resort is only 12 months old, so everything is still new, clean and the standard double/double room for 2 adults and 2 kids was much bigger than a usual hotel room and also had a microwave and fridge. You can also get bigger rooms, suites with bunk beds etc

The water park is great, it is not huge, but enough to keep the kids and adults busy all day. There is a dedicated little kids area, plus slides for the older kids and a "Flow rider" surf activity. Lots of areas to sit, relax, and eat while the kids play or you may need to relax if you are exhausted from walking up lots of stairs for all the water-slides!

When the kids are sick of the water fun there is an indoor arcade area with games, virtual reality, laser tag, rock climbing wall, overhead trapeze walking activity, bowling - the list goes on! The arcade is pay as you go, where as the water park is included in your hotel accommodation rate.

There were plenty of food options including casual buffet style meal or more upmarket bar and restaurant. They had complimentary kids activities like bingo, slime making and then a family movie at night, so we could sit at the bar while kids were doing the activities right next to us in the foyer area.

We found the weekend so much fun and the kids were exhausted by the end of the day. The best bit was that there was so much physical activity while having fun and no iPads or iPhones in sight! The kids are begging to go back ASAP.
